Female motorists in Hounslow are being offered a free lesson in essential car maintenance after research showed many feel intimidated when taking their vehicles to a garage.

Women can learn more about what's under their bonnets during the 90-minute session at Kwik Fit's centre in Staines Road, Hounslow, next Monday (October 6) from 6.30pm.

Kwik Fit teamed up with Hounslow Council to offer the free training after a survey of more than 2,000 drivers suggested 78 per cent of women feel uncomfortable taking their car to a garage to be fixed.

Deputy council leader Amrit Mann said: "Learning how to change a tyre or check your oil is a fantastic skill to learn for anyone, including many men, but especially some women who may feel vulnerable when driving alone."

The council has also teamed up with Kwik Fit to offer free child car seat safety checks, along with a test to see if their vehicle is ready for the winter, at the centre next Wednesday (October 8), from 10am to 2pm.

Kwik Fit previously held a similar maintenance session for women at its Brentford centre beside the M4 in Phoenix Trade Park, on September 25.
