A man who killed his passenger when he crashed into parked cars in Hampton was today jailed for four years.

Jonathan Coombs, 22, of Riverdale Road, Hanworth, pleaded guilty to death by dangerous driving at Kingston Crown Court was also disqualified from driving for four years.

In the early hours of June 19 last year the 22-year-old ploughed a Ford Fiesta into a row of parked cars, seriously injuring his passenger, Johnathan Hughes, who later died.

Sergeant Peter Mosdell, from the Met’s Traffic Garage said: “This was the tragic loss of life of a young man who had his whole life ahead of him.

"The driver’s lost control of his vehicle leading to the death of his best friend - surely there is no stronger message to drivers to watch their speed. ”
