YOUR page six article on the council tax for the forthcoming financial year (Chronicle, March 12) again highlights the hypocrisy of at least two of our so-called socialist councillors, namely Jagdish Sharma and Ruth Cadbury.

At no time, as far as I'm aware, have either of these counillors called for a reduction in council tax, not even in the 1990s when we had a downturn in the economy.

Ruth Cadbury claims that the Conservative councillors are lining their pockets at the expense of local residents. Here is an opportunity for both of these councillors to show an example as socialists and forgo any allowance; the money saved could go towards lowering the council tax burden.

It was the Labour-controlled council that increased councillors' allowances from £50 per week to £200, and not one of our socialist representatives objected. I wonder why?
