Premiership football fans are facing a £100 red card if they park carelessly on the streets of Stanmore.

Clubs like Arsenal have already agreed to help by informing all their fans ahead of this Saturday’s England v Kazkstan game at Wembley Stadium.

Harrow Council is contacting all 20 teams in the Premiership and the Football Association as part of an ongoing campaign to protect households who live near Stanmore tube. A number of roads around the Jubilee Line stop have suffered continual inconvenience from Wembley crowds who park thoughtlessly before boarding the underground to the football venue. In some cases cars are left on kerbs or grass verges.

The authority is asking football clubs to help by reminding fans intending to take the underground to park carefully if they have to drive to Stanmore, or take public transport all the way.

Portfolio holder for the environment Councillollr Susan Hall said: "Residents around Stanmore tube station have made it clear to us repeatedly that they are tired of not being able to park outside their own homes and are weary of having grass verges and kerbs damaged by football fans.

"Harrow Council will now be making a direct approach to the UK's league football clubs in advance of any games that they will play at Wembley, asking them to highlight to their fans the parking restrictions which operate in Stanmore. There is very limited parking in Stanmore. We would prefer not to have to issue parking tickets but we want to keep traffic moving in Harrow."

"The council will ask the clubs to communicate to fans via their websites, forums and weekly magazines that they should factor into their travel arrangements that they can't park in Stanmore."

The council took action in June this year to protect those living near Stanmore tube station when it approved plans to introduce strict parking controls on 20 roads around the popular tube stop. That action followed a major consultation of more than 4,000 households in the area.
