A former amateur footballer died after being attacked on pitch at the end of a match.

The man in his forties who played for Old Greenfordians was pronounced dead following the assault at the Little Harlington Playing fields yesterday afternoon.

A 19-year-old and a man in his forties were arrested and taken to a London Police station where they remain in custody.

It is believed the 43-year-old went to support his team playing Kinghill Town FC before the assault took place.

A police spokesman said: "Police were called shortly after 12:20pm on November 30th to Little Harlington Playing fields after reports of a man having being assaulted.

"On arrival the London Ambulance Service was already in attendance and the 43-yr-old man was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:05pm.

"Next of kin have been informed but we still await formal identification."
