A fire broke out at a block of flats in Bayswater in the early house of yesterday morning.

Eight fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a blaze in Porchester Square at around 5.30am.

The fire damaged park of a six-room maisonette on the fifth floor of the seven-floor building and part of a neighbouring flat.

Five people were led to safety and ten other people left the building before the firefighters arrived.

Crews from Paddington, Kensington, North Kensington, Willesden, Soho and Knightsbridge attended the incident, bringing the blaze under control by 6.40am.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
