THE newly crowned Hanwell Carnival queen and princess stepped out in style for their first official engagement this week.

Rosie White, 20, and 16-year-old Julia Schilli-Somjen followed in the footsteps of the Duchess of Cambridge when they visited a new charity shop to pick out new outfits while supporting local causes.

The girls, who were chosen earlier this month to lead the procession to the carnival in Elthorne Park on June 16, browsed clothes at Accession Community Shop in Boston Road.

It was opened earlier this year by Ealing Council and West London Mental Health Trust. As well as raising money to help disabled people or those with learning difficulties to find jobs it offers employment advice and volunteering opportunities.

Rosie, who bagged a gold strapless dress for £8 and nude court heels for £6, said: “It’s brilliant. I’ll definitely be coming in here again.” And Julia was equally pleased with her cheap finds - a grey A-line strapless dress for £5, beaded necklace and black handbag for £4 each.

Shop manager Sally Pennycoat said she was delighted with the shop’s success for far, adding: “We’re doing brilliantly on women’s clothes, furniture and bric-a-brac.”

The girls hope to attend as many local functions as possible this year. If you would like them to come to your event visit www.hanwellcarnival.co.uk
