A MATURE student with a debilitating disease has written a book to inspire others to find out who they are.

Trisha Alleyne will launch Is This Really You? – which tells a story of self-discovery – today (Thursday), at the London School of Science and Technology in Bridgewater Road, Alperton.

She has already introduced the book to the public in Kent and Barbados and is now bringing it to Brent, where she is studying business and management.

The school’s principal Alan Jeffery said: “Trisha’s story is an inspiration to us all and we are very proud that she has decided to study with us. Although this is a story of one woman’s journey, it helps us all to know who we are and where we want to be, a major step in self-understanding.”

Trisha was diagnosed with Devic’s disease, a rare condition which is similar to multiple sclerosis, in 2004 and was told she would never see or walk again.

But she regained partial vision and is now able to read and can walk with assistance.

Trisha said: “My daughter’s eyewitness account of my struggle and healing following my illness in 2004, prompted her gentle encouragement for me to dig deeper into my past.

“Amazed by the life-changing challenges I faced throughout my early years she inspired me to turn my diaries that I had kept for the last eight years into a book.”

The book is about understanding who you are and where you are going and is the first in a trilogy planned by Trisha.

n Today’s launch event is from 4.30pm to 7.30pm. Copies of Is This Really You? can be bought there for £10.
