FIREFIGHTERS have been battling a huge blaze on the outskirts of Uxbridge after two units at an industrial park went up in smoke.

Plumes of smoke rising into the sky could be seen from West Drayton after the fire at the Thorney Mill Business Park near Iver, this lunchtime (Monday).

At least three fire engines are at the scene, at four people have been treated for smoke inhalation.

There is also believed to be asbestos at the premises, and firefighters are wearing full breathing apparatus, as they struggle to bring it under control.

As the fire began at 11.30pm, witnesses reported hearing explosions, possibly from gas cylinders.

The blaze is believed to have wrecked a car parts body workshop which uses one of the units at the business park.
