A caravan in Feltham was destroyed in a blaze yesterday, but firefighters averted the risk of an explosion.

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters were called to the fire in Bedfont Road just after 2pm.

It took them just over an hour to extinguish the flames and although they were unable to save the caravan, they successfully cooled two gas cylinders to prevent the danger of an explosion.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
