Firefighters had to work quickly to prevent water from a burst main entering nearby businesses on Saturday (June 6) evening.

The water main burst in Victoria Street, Westminster, just after 6pm, and fire crew used sandbags to stop the flow causing damage.

Crew manager Jamal Stern who was at the scene said: “The burst main flooded an area between Artillery Row and Palace Street and our crews made the area safe and used sandbags to help prevent the water from entering a cinema and neighbouring restaurant.

“We also made sure that, as they left the cinema, that people were escorted across the flooded roadway to safety.”
