HARLINGTON Community School students hoping to 'ride high' in the jobs market quizzed potential employers at a careers fair organised by the doomed Hillingdon Connexions service.

Hundreds of teenagers at the school passed through to talk to representatives from universities, further training colleges and various businesses.

To tempt new recruits, the British Racing School (BRS) took along a mechanical training horse, and dozens of teachers and students saddled up during the afternoon.

Carol Murray,

Harlington's career adviser from Connexions, said: "I believe this type of event is absolutely essential so that our future generations have the opportunity to talk to potential employers and training providers to enable them to plan early and explore the huge choices available."

Hillingdon Connexions, the borough's careers advice service for young people, will close next month after being scrapped in a cost-cutting measure.

An online petition calling on Hillingdon Council to reverse the decision has been signed by 170 people.
