THE winners of the Hayes Town Christmas window competition received an early Christmas cash prize at the end of December.

The competition was run by Hayes Town Business Forum, and judged on December 20 by Lorraine Collins, of Uxbridge College, and Phill Hill, the creative director at International Visual, a visual merchandising company that works with shops to create more interesting shop fronts.

Sixteen stores in the town entered the competition, but the £100 cash prize was awarded to Platterpuss, the fancy dress and karaoke shop in Station Road.

Five other shops were highly commended: Dahram Jewellers, Crockford Mills, World Wines, Harrold Opticians and the YMCA charity shop. They each received a certificate to display in their window.

Dudley Arthur, who owns Platterpuss with his wife, Birgit, were celebrating in the store last week with shop manager Colin Downes.

Mr Arthur said: “We really are pleased because we have never really concentrated on a window display before and with the proper theme, it’s been excellent.

“We received help from Phill, who told us what works and what looks good, and hopefully it will attract people into the store.

“It’s always difficult to get publicity out there so that people know we are here, but Christmas is our second busiest time after Halloween, and this was a treat on top of that.”
