A 15-year-old Feltham girl has died after being rescued from a lake at a Gloucestershire water park.

Kajil Devi is believed to have playing in the water at the public 'beach' at Cotswold Water Park on Sunday when her family could not find her.

She was pulled from the water by a boy who was playing football in the lake at around 3.45pm and a lifeguard carried out CPR until paramedics arrived.

The teen had been in a critical condition at Great Western Hospital in Swindon and died on Monday afternoon.

Watermark, who manage the beach and park said the teen who was at the beach with her parents and other family members was in a three-foot deep section of the bathing area when she slipped under the water after "experiencing difficulties".

Adrian Davey, operations director at Cotswold Country Park and Beach said: "Our lifeguards, quite rightly, decided not to evacuate the bathing area, There was no risk to bathers in the water and a mass evacuation may have caused confusion or panic, and hampered the arrival of the emergency services."

The air ambulance arrived shortly after paramedics. Although there was space to land within the boundaries of the park, it is understood that the pilot may have taken the decision that he could not take the risk of the area not being free of members of the public and so landed in a neighbouring field instead.

Mr Davey said the park was at half of its capacity at the time of the incident.

"Everyone at the park is saddened to hear of the girl's death. We extend our sympathies to her family," he said.
