A civil servant from Feltham has been named as the junior official at the centre of allegations that Home Office secrets were leaked to Tory front bench MP Damian Green.

Chris Galley, an assistant private secretary employed in Home Secretary Jacqui Smith's private office, was arrested at his home on November 19, it was reported yesterday. He has also been suspended from his job.

The Met Police confirmed today they arrested a 26-year-old man from Middlesex on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He has been bailed until next month pending further enquiries, a spokesman added.

Mr Green (pictured) was arrested on Thursday as 20 anti-terror police searched his homes in London and Kent and his Commons offices.

The raids came after the MP exposed secrets including the fact that 5,000 illegal immigrants had been cleared to work as security guards.

The Government has denied 'prior knowledge' of the police action, which has been branded 'Stalinist' by Tory MPs.

But Commons Speaker Michael Martin is today under mounting pressure from MPs to explain why police were allowed to raid the Parliamentary office of Mr Green.
