I TOOK the advice of Conservative councillor Paul Johnston regarding the spending of Edward Davey MP. I am a little surprised by what I found when linked to the Daily Telegraph's Complete Expenses Files.
Mr Johnston asked what's Davey's £17,603 'staff cover' was for. Didn't he check Davey's own website? If he had he would have found it was for maternity and long term sick leave.
Mr Johnston also asks about Daveys' travel costs (annual season ticket?) and I wonder why the Conservative MP for Wimbledon has £4,162 for that travel cost.
I thought Wimbledon was nearer by train than Surbiton. Then again if the local Conservatives supported a joint rail re-zoning campaign then this might be lower. Still, perhaps their ineffective Mayor of London could carry out his promise regarding re-zoning.
For my final exercise I looked at this newspaper area coverage and the Parliamentary constituencies, and linked this to the Telegraph's files. There are six MPs (four Liberal Democrat, two Conservative). Ed Davey, Susan Kramer, Vince Cable and Paul Burstow are all included in the 'saints' listing. The two Conservatives are not!
Never mind Mr Johnston, it was a good effort on your part, but the figures just don't support what you are trying to achieve and the electorate are not stupid enough to fall for it. What a pity a national newspaper spoiled your feeble attempt to bring doubt on an honest MP.
