A red-head who killed an Isleworth man after being taunted about his hair colour at a barbecue has been jailed for eight years.

Aleksandr Sokolov, 49, stabbed Ivars Kunkulis, 25, following an argument at a birthday party in Woolwich, east London.

Lithuanian Sokolov had been teased by the Latvian manual labourer, of Great West Road, for being ginger at the gathering on June 3 last year.

He then left the house and returned armed with a knife which he plunged into his victim's back.

Sokolov fled to Lithuania but was extradited back to the UK and found guilty of manslaughter at the Old Bailey last Wednesday.

DI John Nicholson, of the Metropolitan Police Homicide and Serious Crime Command, said: "This tragedy could so easily have been avoided, the consequences of carrying or using knifes is always likely to lead to significant harm, in this case Ivars' death.

Sokolov insisted he was provoked and had acted in self-defence.
