THE teenager who died following a fall from a Harrow shopping centre was the younger sister of a student who was raped and murdered in Sudbury three years ago, it has emerged.
Nishma Raithatha, of Imperial Drive, South Harrow, suffered the fatal fall at St George's Shopping Centre in St Ann's Road on Tuesday April 7 and an inquest into her death was opened on Wednesday.
Her late sister Jeshma was sexually attacked and killed in 2005 by Viktor Dembovskis, a 43-year-old Latvian national who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime in March 2006.
Jeshma was 17 at the time and studying at Claremont High School in Kenton, while the family lived in Greenford. Nishma would have been just 12.
Their parents were too upset to talk about the girls' deaths yesterday evening.
Meena, the girls' aunt, who refused to give her surname, said: "It seems like only yesterday this was happening and the family are going through it all again.
"These are very difficult times and we are all distressed.
"The mother and father are trying to figure out the best way to deal with it."
The family visited both graves yesterday to lay flowers.
Relatives and friends of the family were streaming in and out of the semi-detached three-bedroomed family home to speak with the devastated parents.
A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: "It's very, very tragic. I went to see the father and he was devastated.
"For him to lose two daughters in the space of four years is terrible."
A second neighbour added: "We only found out the other day that Nishma had lost her sister four years ago.
"Nishma wasn't that happy and always looked quite depressed.
"I don't think they'll ever move on from something like this, it's utterly tragic."
