A FAMILY home has been severely damaged by fire just two weeks after the owners had moved in.

The blaze in Fisher Close, Greenford, at 3pm on Tuesday, started in the garage of the semi-detached property, spreading to the house and then to the home next door.

Nobody was in either house at the time, but the property where the blaze started had been undergoing renovations for seven weeks prior to the family moving in. All that work has now been destroyed.

Owner Simon Nezam said: “I left home at about 2.30pm to go to my mother’s house and my daughter called me to say that the house was on fire.

“We have no idea how it started. My daughter had done her room really nicely, the way she wanted it, and now it’s full of smoke damage.”

Mr Nezam, who lives with his fiancée, teenage daughter and
son, added that his house is fully insured, so he hopes the repair work can be carried out as soon as possible.

The neighbouring house caught the flames on the left hand side and also suffered smoke damage, but mainly to the outside of the property.

Owner Tony Greasby, who lives with his daughter Sophie and son Jamie, narrowly missed being caught up in the incident, leaving home minutes before it started.

He said: “My daughter had just left about 15 minutes before it went up. The door has gone at the back and the front entrance had to be kicked in. I’m gutted for Simon. He spent a hell of a lot of money on his house.

“They are a very nice, quiet and friendly family and everyone gets on well in the close. I’m just happy that no one was hurt.”

One crew from Southall and two crews from Ealing tackled the fire, and brought it under control within an hour.

A police spokesman said that the fire was not suspicious and likely to have been caused by a fault in the electrics.
