Families piled into the renovated Feltham Park as the first glimpse of sunshine came through for half-term.

After a disastrous few weeks of wet weather and flooding problems, the play area which was opened at the beginning of the month was used by dozens of families on Sunday (16).

The playground transformation which includes picnic tables, a climbing frame with slides, swings and a roundabout, has been welcomed by parents who are extremely happy they have a nice, and safe open space to take their children to run around in.

Agnieszka Lipka of Berberis House in Feltham led the campaign for a safe new play area in Feltham, with a petition which gained huge support from parents.

Mother-of-two Mrs Lipka, who is also due to stand up as a Feltham West ward councillor later this year, said: "People are so happy and excited about the new playground.

"On Sunday, in the two hours I was here with my children there were around 50 to 60 people.

"The old playground was popular because of the location, and now people have found out the new one has opened there are a lot of people are coming here now."

The petition which was launched in March last year, coincided with the news Hounslow council was to improve local parks which included a £100,000 investment in Feltham Park.

The money was used to clean up the grounds, install new play equipment and a new fence around the park for safety.

Mrs Lipka added: "I believe that the installation of this playground has been a great addition to Feltham and I am sure that it will continue to bring enjoyment to many people in the future and provide a much better and safer facility for local children.

"The old playground has always been very popular.

"The new colourful play equipment offers safe, stimulating and challenging provision, which will offer great play opportunities for many years to come."

The playground has separate areas for children aged two to five, and for those aged six to 12.

Feltham Park is on Hounslow Road.
