Thousands of people flocked to Blondin Park for a fun filled day of music, sports and animals at the Brentford Festival.

This was the second year the event was held across the Hounslow border in Ealing, where hundreds of families spent the day enjoying live bands playing everything from jazz to rock, indulging in food from all over the world, and meeting farm animals, on Sunday (September 7).

Other popular festival bites included a bar run by volunteers from Friends of Boston Manor park and including kegs of London Pride donated by Fuller's brewery in Chiswick.

Due to a conflict between supply and demand the bar even sold out of beer temporarily but the dry state was only temporary as new supplies were quickly found and customers were happy once more.

There was also a Pimm's bar, a dog show, and it was shopping heaven with more than 100 stalls selling everything from handcrafted jewellery and home-baked cakes to historical books and potted plants, as well as local groups such as Hounslow, and Brentford Toy Libraries, Mind in Ealing and Hounslow and a number of rotary clubs.

The campaign to find Alice Gross was very active with posters on every table and stall as well as tent where people of all faiths could go and pray for her.

Brentford Festival events manager Linda Massey was over the moon with another successful year.

She said: "The turnout was fantastic.

"Thousands of people turned up to the event and everyone seemed to be having a great time.

"There was a great sense of community spirit.

"The weather was perfect on the day and thanks goes out to the many volunteers who helped bring the event together and made it as big a success as it was."

There was a moment of panic the night before when Mrs Massey lost her precious mobile phone with much of the important numbers and information for the festival on it.

She said: “I was about to email the committee in a panic, when I retraced my steps...and found the phone where I had left it. In the freezer where I’d put it down while getting food out!”

The phone was already encased in a block of ice, but after a while spent defrosting in a box of rice it started to work again.

Mrs Massey added: “It’s a miracle really and will be very useful if I decide I want to cold call anyone!”

One of the most popular stalls on the day was the Hanwell Town Youth FC tent where Brazilian food was being prepared by the club’s beloved Cidinha Bishop.

A range of delicacies including chilli con carne, rice and salsa, was served up to hungry customers throughout the day - all of whom were full of praise for the quality.

Mrs Bishop said: “I do a lot of cooking for Elthorne and Fielding schools, I’m not a professional caterer but I am Brazilian and we do love our food!

“People seem to like what I make and I’m always happy to oblige especially for a festival as good as this one.”

The Brentford Festival Committee have said Hounslow council are keen to have the event back in the borough, at it's home in Boston Manor next year, and a meeting will take place to discuss this.
