A HEALTH warning has been issued after potentially unsafe fake condoms were found on sale across Harrow Weald.
Five packets with counterfeit branding were seized by trading standards officers from shops earlier this week.
Brendon Hills, corporate director of community and environment at Harrow Council , has warned that the fakes may not provide proper protection against pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases.
"The condoms could be unsafe, which could in turn lead to unwanted pregnancies and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases," he said.
"Selling fake goods is a serious criminal offence and my officers will continue to visit businesses and take appropriate action.
"I urge businesses to check their stocks of these products to ensure that they only stock genuine ones. If they are in any doubt, they should contact trading standards."
Investigations were launched last year after a few hundred packets of counterfeit Durex condoms were seized from retailers across Harrow.
Trading standards officers have yet to work out where they have come from, but investigations are continuing.
Counterfeit Champagne, fake vodka and imitation laptop battery chargers have also been seized by officers since the investigation was launched.
Supplying, or offering to supply, such goods has a maximum penalty of an unlimited fine and or up to 10 years in jail.
