PLANNING and planning policy are the major ways that communities make sure that any development is sustainable.
Locally, however, it seems that planning has not entirely fulfilled its role of ensuring sustainable development in our area.
I may if course be wrong, but it seems to me that a lot of the recent development and new homes in the area have been flats rather than family homes.
Whilst I know that living patterns are changing and more people are living alone it does seem that not catering for families with children is just a tad short sighted.
To maintain a healthy community a range of people is needed, and families bring young people and working age people in to an area.
Given the strain that an aging population puts on resources, it is important to attract families of working age to ensure we have a population base to support the services our communities need.
I would urge the council to promote family friendly development in the area rather than developer friendly blocks of flats.
