HILLINGDON joined in the Olympic handover celebrations over the weekend by announcing extra financial backing to the borough's most gifted athletes.
The council celebrated the event on Sunday afternoon by raising the Olympic flag on the civic centre forecourt.
A 'Gold' bursary of £10,000 is being made available to the borough's most promising sporting talents, to help them achieve their goals for 2012.
Attending the celebrations were runner Rion Pierre, who won bronze at the Junior World Championships in Beijing and members of the Slipstreamers Junior Cycling Club, who won their category in this year's London Youth Games.
Ray Puddifoot, Leader of the Council, said: "This is part of our continued commitment to become a more active, healthy and successful sporting borough and providing a legacy for the future generations of future residents."
