Man abandoned suitcase in concourse and ran

A woman, who asked to remain anonymous, told getwestlondon:

“It is my husband caught up in it rather than me.

“He has said that he had to leave immediately, and he ran for it.

“It was a panicky situation, to the extent that he abandoned his suitcase in the concourse and ran, which he would never have done, had he not genuinely thought there was an imminent threat of an explosion.”

Station reopened

London Euston has now reopened but there will be “significant delays” to trains until end of service, BTP and Network Rail both said.

Network Rail statement

“We are working with BTP to reopen the station as soon as possible following an earlier security alert.”

The station is expected to reopen within 10 minutes

The explosion was an e-cigarette

British Transport Police has just issued a new statement confirming the explosion came from an e-cigarette.

“Officers are currently at Euston station responding to a security alert.

We are investigating but there appears to have been a small contained explosion which is believed to have been caused by an e-cigarette which was in a bag at the station.

No one is believed to have been injured.

We were called at around 7.40pm.

The station is currently evacuated whilst officers and search dogs check the area is safe.

We are working with Network Rail to reopen the station as soon as possible.

Thank you everyone for your patience.”
