SEVEN EXCEPTIONAL Brent and Harrow residents have been recognised in the latest New Year's Honours List.

The Harrow Observer is delighted to present the list of residents whose outstanding efforts in a variety of fields have seen them honoured by The Queen.

The OBE and MBE recipients in the 2012 list are:

Professor Simon Kirwan Donaldson, a Royal Society Professor of Mathematics at the Imperial College London. His OBE is for services to mathematics.

Daphne Vernede Hamblin from Pinner has been made an MBE for services to children with disabilities through her work with the Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre, West London.

Leslie Norman Moss, a fund raiser from Pinner for Cancer Research UK has been made an MBE for Charitable Services.

Morella Kayman, vice president of The Alzheimer's Society has been made an MBE for services to health care. She is from Stanmore.

Umesh Valjee, a cricketer from Wembley has been made an MBE for services to deaf cricket.

Lila Thakerar, a pharmacist from Harrow has been made an MBE for services to the community in the London Borough of Harrow.

Acting Col Anthony Ian Denison from the Middlesex and North West London Section Army Cadet Force has also been made an MBE.
