AN MP who served Brent until three years ago will be standing again in the next election.

Former Labour MP Dawn Butler has been selected to stand for Brent Central in the 2015 general election.

Ms Butler served as MP for Brent South from 2005 to 2010 for Labour but lost her seat due to boundary changes.

She stood again for Brent Central but came second to incumbent MP for the constituency Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather.

Ms Butler said: “This has been a tough campaign made more so by the size of the initial field of candidates and by the quality and calibre of the final shortlisted candidates; all of whom would have been an excellent choice for Brent Central.  I wish them all well and hope that they too will be successful in the future in having this honour and responsibility given to them. Secondly, I would like to thank all the Labour Party members who have taken part and voted in this selection process.  I am honoured and very much humbled that you have put your faith and trust in me once again, I will not let you down.  Now though we must all come together and unite for the battle ahead.  It will not be easy, but I know that Brent Central members are amongst the most committed and hard working and I am thankful that you will be by my side.”

Lib Dem MP Sarah Teather will not stand again and the shortlist for candidates for the party is Lauren Keith, Ibrahim Taguri, Anuja Prashar and Ajmal Masroor.

The final selection will be made next week no later than Friday December 20.
