I was intrigued to read the article regarding the Chiswick auction sale of Ronnie and Reggie Kray memorabilia (Chronicle, January 29) but not surprised at people's enthusiasm to own something belonging to the notorious twins.

Living in the London area for over half a century, and for manyyears involved in the perceived villainous world of the used car trade, I have met some very colourful characters but I cannot claim to have met the Krays and if I had a monkey (£500) for every one in the same position as me I would not be a rich man.

There are those who claim they remember the Flower Power era of the sixties and seventies and what a wonderful time it was. It is also said that if you remember those days you were not there. The passing of time plays funny tricks with people's memories.

Anyway, I must go as I have been invited to a tea party with my friend Alice.

Yours, tongue in cheek
