AFICIONADOS of architecture and history will be able to peek inside some of Harrow’s oldest and most interesting buildings for free.
The Open Doors weekend on September 21 and 22 has been organised by Harrow Council in partnership with Harrow School in lieu of the council’s decision not to pay £4,000 for the borough to participate in the widely publicised and very popular capitalwide Open House London on the same dates.
Harrow Council’s portfolio holder for community and culture, Councillor Nizam Ismail (Independent Labour), said: “Harrow has some of the most beautiful heritage in London with some fascinating stories to tell.
“Harrow Open Doors is a wonderful opportunity to admire their form and learn about their history.
“By developing our own event this year, our heritage buildings are working together to promote the history of the borough and giving our residents and other visitors a unique opportunity to visit some of our greatest structures.”
The public will be able to visit churches and other places of worships, several of Harrow School’s buildings and rooms,
Headstone Manor at the council-run Harrow Museum and Heritage Centre in Harrow will host on Saturday regular tours from 10.30am to 3.45pm that are bookable in person on the day at reception. Visitors must be able to walk unaided.
