Tiger, leopard and deer parts mixed into Chinese herbal medicines have been seized from a shop in Chinatown.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police specialist wildlife unit, raided the Lisle Street store on Tuesday sezing around 200 products believed to contain the endangered species.

It is illegal to sell, keep for sale or buy any item that claims to be made from an endangered species.

Traders can now have goods seized for simply claiming to have endangered speicies on sale, even if the origin of the animal can not be established.

The raid takes the total number of items seized under the Met's ongoing operation Charm to over 40,000 - many from Chinatown or Chinese medicine shops. The operation aims to stop London stimulating demand for the poaching and trafficking of endangered species.

DC David Flint said: "Most traditional Chinese medicines are not made from endangered species and can be sold legally, however those that do have a disproportionate impact on wild populations."

The 28-year-old shop manager was not arrested.
