Power provider Southern Electric have insisted their substation is not responsible for the blaze that ripped through Feltham gardens and garages.

More than 30 people were driven from their houses by the fire, which raged for nearly two hours behind Brainton Avenue last Sunday, and speculation has quickly spread that an electrical substation consumed by the flames may have been the source.

But Denis Kerby, a spokesman for Southern Electric, said: "We are waiting to hear the results of the fire brigade investigation but our engineers on site are confident that it was not anything to do with our equipment and that it started externally."
