Catriona Wood was chosen from the finishers of this year’s Ealing Half Marathon as the lucky winner of a Smart e-bike.

The bike was supplied by race sponsors Mercedes-Benz Brentford, from where Catriona took delivery of the bike on Monday.

With 200 watts at her disposal, Catriona will be able to travel through the city quickly and comfortably; the 423watt battery will allow her to cover up to 62 miles.

The motor can also be used as a generator.

The Smart e-bike can be charged by connecting it, via the charger, to any normal household socket or by charging the battery separately. Pedal power will also give the battery a boost.

Catriona, from Stoke Newington, completed the Ealing Half Marathon in one hour 58 minutes 39 seconds.

“I can’t believe it – I’ve never won anything in my life!” she said. “The Ealing Half Marathon was a great experience and I’ll definitely be back next year. I might even use the e-bike to get there.”

Trevor Webb, general manager at Mercedes-Benz Brentford, said: “We were delighted to be official sponsors of the Ealing Half Marathon 2013, especially as we were able to lead a team of over 25 employees raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. Many congratulations to Cat on winning our Smart e-bike. We hope she enjoys it.”
