THE Electoral Commission has cleared Ealing Southall MP Virendra Sharma of any wrongdoing following an investigation carried out earlier this year.

The independent commission released a statement saying it has carried out a ‘thorough and impartial’ investigation into allegations that Mr Sharma received an impermissible donation to fund an election victory party and has completely cleared him of any impropriety.

The body added that it has written to Mr Sharma this week to confirm that he did not receive any such donation and had no connection with the alleged donation either directly or indirectly and that the matter
is now closed.

Mr Sharma said: “From the beginning I was very happy to co-operate with the Electoral Commission in order to set the record straight. I am delighted that they have unequivocally concluded that these allegations against me were false.

“It is always difficult when untrue allegations of this nature are made and I am very pleased that my name has been cleared by the impartial Electoral Commission.”
