An elderly woman killed while crossing the road has been named as Kathleen Morel.

The 95-year-old of Clearwell Drive, Maida Hill , died after the crash involving a lorry at 12.25pm on March 17.

Detectives from the Road Death Investigation Unit believe the woman was using a pedestrian crossing close to her home in Elgin Avenue at the junction with Chippenham Road when she was knocked down.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Sergeant Jeff Edwards said: “We would like to express our thanks to the witnesses who contacted police as a result of our appeal, which assisted our investigation considerably.”

A 33-year-old man from Hertfordshire was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He has since been bailed and due to return to a central London police station on April 21.

The results of a post-mortem which took place at Westminster Mortuary on March 21, are yet to be confirmed.

An inquest into Ms Morel’s death was opened on March 25 and has been adjourned while police complete their investigation.
