An elderly pedestrian has died after being hit by a black cab.

A man, believed to be in his late 70s, suffered serious injuries but later died in hospital. Next of kin have not yet been informed.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the collision in Eaton Square at the junction with Eccleston Street, Victoria.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service were called around 6.45pm yesterday (Dec 17) following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a black taxi.

The male driver of the taxi stopped at the scene and has not been arrested. 

Enquiries continue and are led by specialist officers from the Road Death Investigation Unit, based at Catford traffic garage.
