The elderly and disabled commuters across London whose Freedom passes expire on March 31 next year are being encouraged to put renewing their freedom passes at the top of their New Year to-do list.

The warning comes to ensure replacements can be delivered before April, but figures show that only 10 per cent of those who need to renew have already done so.

Councillor Krupesh Hirani, Brent Council’s cabinet member for adults, health and wellbeing, said: “The Freedom pass does exactly what it says on the tin, providing free travel for elderly and disabled people, giving them more freedom, and helping them to stay as independent as possible, for as long as possible.

“Not every pass issued to Brent residents will expire on March 31, but I'd encourage everyone to check their pass and if it is one that expires at the end of March, then renew it by the New Year to ensure the new one arrives safely before the old one expires.”

Residents whose freedom passes expire at the end of March 2015 will receive a letter from London Councils explaining how they can renew their pass by post, or online at www.freedompass.org/renew
