A teacher faces a ban from the profession after allegations of racism.

Adeniyi Kolade, from Edgware, is alleged to have referred to a pupil as "chinky" at the school where he taught.

The teacher at Highgate Wood School, Haringey, is also said to have told a year seven class "people who don't learn end up having rubbish jobs like street cleaners or rubbish men" and "bad people come from bad families."

The hearing at the General Teaching Council's today will decide whether he is guilty of unacceptable professional conduct over these and other comments.

Mr Kolade is also alleged to have told the class "black people these days don't get the right education" and "dumb people would go into stupid categories and would be sweeping the roads" in 2006.

The disciplinary panel is due to make a decision later today.
