LABOUR leader Ed Miliband has paid a visit to Feltham to congratulate the party's newest MP, Seema Malhotra, who won Thursday's by-election with an increased majority over the Conservatives.

Mrs Malhotra won the Feltham and Heston seat with a majority of 6,203 - a net swing of 8.6 per cent.

Mr Miliband returned to the constituency today (Friday December 16) after campaigning on Feltham High Street earlier in the campaign.

He said: "Seema Malhotra will work every day that she is a Member of Parliament for Feltham and Heston to show people made the right choice by putting their trust in her."

He added: "The Prime Minister made a big boast out of coming to this by-election, but what are the Tories saying today? They are writing off not just the verdict, they are writing off the people of Feltham and Heston.

"They're saying, 'Oh well, what do you expect? It's just traditional Labour'. I say, instead of denying the people's choice, this Conservative-led government should listen to the people's verdict, they should listen to the verdict that says there is a better way forward.

"They should listen to the verdict because, you know, the people of Feltham and Heston are like people across this country - people who are fearful and who say there is a better way."

Joining Mr Miliband on the visit was Ken Livingstone, Labour's candidate in next year's London mayoral election.

He said: "Labour's Seema Malhotra ran a fantastic campaign and will be a great advocate for the people of Feltham and Heston in Parliament."
