Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls promised to "save the NHS" in Harrow East when he toured the area to support parliamentary candidate Uma Kumaran.

Ed Balls met with local businesses on Monday (April 22) claiming a Labour government would cut the business rate in its first year.

Mrs Kumaran said: “It was fantastic to talk to local business owners with Ed today and hear their concerns about our borough.

“Ed’s vision for our country resonates with my plans for Harrow, especially saving our NHS and ensuring our economy works for the many and not the few.”

More than 5,000 small businesses in Harrow will allegedly benefit from the cut, saving an average of around £400 a year.

The scheme would see the business rate frozen in the second year.

Ed Balls also met with undecided voters in an attempt to convince them that voting Labour was the only way to avoid re-electing a Tory MP in the constituency.

The Shadow Chancellor said: “I know Uma will be a great MP in this part of London and I want her with me in the next parliament, transforming our economy and voting against the Bedroom Tax.

“Harrow East is one of the seats where, if we win, we can save the NHS.”
