Plans for a new carbon-neutral development in Hounslow have been given the go-ahead by councillors.

Catalyst Housing Group gained permission for the 18-home development in Staines Road, which will include a variety of features to help residents reduce both their utility bills and carbon footprint, just before Christmas.

The environmentally-friendly scheme will be the housing association's first zero carbon site.

It will feature solar panels to generate electricity, a biomass boiler to provide heat and power, high levels of insulation, high efficiency appliances and lighting and a rainwater recycling system.

Space will also be set aside for use as allotments.

Julia Moulder, director of development at Catalyst, said: "The plans for the Staines Road development, our first zero carbon scheme, mean that residents will be green and save money."

The planning permissions for the site covers four large family homes and 14 two and three bedroom apartments.

Construction is due to begin this summer.
