AN EASTCOTE pub is to be renamed in accordance with residents’ wishes and to reflect the mediaeval history of the village.
Brewer and pub owner Greene King asked residents for their views on a fresh name for The Manor public house in Field End Road.
The final choice is The Ascott which will coincide with a new look when the pub reopens after a major refurbishment on November 9, designed to turn it into a family-friendly pub and restaurant.
Eastcote’s medieval name was Ascott and the choice was put forward by the Ruislip, Northwood and Eastcote Local History Society.
Ian Parkinson, business liaison officer at Eastcote Residents' Association, said he was delighted Greene King had responded to the community.
“The Manor was a horrible name and was confused with Ruislip Manor. The pub didn’t enjoy the best of reputations and we hope Greene King can make this pub the centre of the community. It is vital we have a public house that is family orientated."
Other suggestions included The Dovecote, Haystacks and Field End Tavern.
A Greene King spokeswoman said: “Ascott was chosen to reflect what Eastcote used to be called from the mid-13th century through to the 1800s.
“We would like to thank local residents who took the time to offer their suggestions. Manager Donal Kilcommons was overwhelmed with the response.”
