A bowls club will officially open an extension of its pavilion tomorrow (Saturday, November 29), doubling the building's size.

Eastcote Bowling Club has built the £95,000 extension using funding from Hillingdon Council.

Jan Budd, the club's honorary secretary, said it would enable the facility to remain open during the winter months, providing a venue for indoor bowls and social events.

She said: “It will be great for the club because we have a lot of older members – quite a few who are 75-plus – who over the winter tend to hibernate ... so it will be good that there is somewhere for them to meet socially over the winter and have a game of bowls and a cup of tea.”

The mayor of Hillingdon, Councillor Catherine Dann, will unveil a plaque commemorating the opening at tomorrow's ceremony.

She originally opened the pavilion in 2009, together with her late husband Norman, who was a long-standing member of the club.

Around 100 others are also expected to attend the event at the venue in Cavendish Sports Ground, in Field End Road, Eastcote.

The club has been running since 1934 and now has more than 80 members.
