A pub has won the 2009 Loo of the Year awards after receiving a four-star rating by inspectors.

During their visit to The Sir Michael Balcon in The Mall, Ealing, they were impressed by the decor, maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment and overall management.

The aim of the awards is to highlight and improve the standards of toilets. There are grades of one to five stars; unacceptable toilets are not graded at all.

Phil Doyle, manager of the Wetherspoon pub, said: "I am delighted with the award. Staff work hard to ensure the toilets are in first-class condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors."
