The Ealing man who firebombed the Iranian Embassy in Kensington has pleaded guilty to arson.

Ali Mustafa Rahimi, 20, pleaded guilty to arson at Southwark Crown Court on Friday and will be sentenced in the New Year.

The unemployed Hastings Road resident - described by police as an extremely dangerous individual - threw the petrol bomb at the embassy's wooden doors on the evening of September 22. The fire did not spread in the bungled attack and noone was injured.

He was caught through clues on the Princess Gate building's CCTV system

Chief Inspector Steve Marshall, Diplomatic Protection Group Operations said: "This was a clear and determined attack on the embassy which endangered the lives of those working inside. The Diplomatic Protection Group works hard to safeguard London's diplomatic and Government community.

"This successful investigation, and the quick response of officers at the time, reflects their commitment to the community they serve."
