A GROUP campaigning to save acute services at Ealing Hospital are not prepared to take the proposed closures lying down as they launch the first edition of a 'Choose Ealing' newsletter.
The Ealing Hospital Save Our Services campaign is urging people to 'Choose Ealing' as their first port of call for any services, whether it's family planning, orthopaedics or diabetes, to send a clear message to NHS London that these departments are needed and well used by the borough's patients and General Practitioners.
Every GP practice in Ealing and Southall will receive a copy of the bi-monthly newsletter which gives a list of direct phone and fax numbers for all the departments at the hospital as well as facts and figures relating to the service.
Following the revelation that hospitals across London may be downgraded in a bid to fund a £5billion funding shortfall, with the possibility of Ealing Hospital losing its accident and emergency department, children and maternity services, the EHSOS campaign was launched and Colin Standfield, chair, said: "Staff at the hospital have reacted to these plans by seeking to highlight the range of excellent services the hospital does provide and what local people stand to lose if they go ahead.
"The new hospital electronic bulletin "Choose Ealing" will be rolled out to local GPs and their patients over the next two weeks. A series of road shows will take place with hospital staff showcasing what they can offer as well as a hospital open day for local residents to see what their hospital does provide in terms of excellent local care.
"We have major concerns that if the acute services are removed the very real prospect over time is that all the services in this leaflet will be under threat and, ultimately, be lost to our local population.
"We need to preserve and develop the services at Ealing Hospital NHS Trust to prevent these unseeing bureaucrats from causing healthcare chaos in the area."
