NERVOUS fingers tore at envelopes as excited students picked up their A-level results today at the end of two years of hard work.

Most in the borough had cause to celebrate, as did teachers who have helped the teenagers achieve and prepare for university or to enter the world of work.

Greenford High School headteacher Mathew Cramer said he was delighted with their ‘outstanding’ results with 78 per cent of students getting A* to C and 22 per cent of the grades being A* or A.

He added: “This is a remarkable achievement and we are very proud of them all.”

Alice Hudson, headteacher of Twyford CofE High School in Acton, was equally pleased. More than 70 per cent of students achieved A* to B with 39 per cent of grades at A* or A.

She said: “The secret of the school’s success has been to set the academic targets for the students very high.”

And Featherstone High School in Southall also had many happy students with 68 per cent of students achieving A* to C grades and 35 per cent of students getting two or more A* or A grades.

Gerry Wadwa, Headteacher, said: "We’re delighted with the very pleasing results."
