Ealing Choral Society raised the roof and £5,500 in aid of Save the Children at Ealing Choral Society's carol concert.

The choir, formed in 1962, performed at St Barnabas Church in front of an audience of 300, including BBC journalist and broadcaster John Sergeant and Mayor of Ealing Tej Ram Bagha on Saturday (December 13).

Clayton Ricketts, Regional Fundraising Manager for Save the Children, said: "I would like to express my sincere thanks to Ealing Choral Society for a wonderful evening of very moving music and festive cheer, and for choosing Save The Children as their charity this year.”

The money raised will support the charity's work in the UK and overseas, with volunteers in Ealing helping pupils with their reading and running a programme bringing together families, schools and the community.

Cleveland Ward Councillor Lynne Murray and Shane Beadle, chairman of Ealing Choral Society, were among those who gave seasonal readings.

Student volunteers from the University of West London acted as stewards and served mince pies and wine after the concert.

The event was sponsored by local stores The Co-operative Food Ealing, Morrisons M Local West Ealing, Sainsbury’s Ealing Broadway Local, Tesco Metro Ealing and Waitrose West Ealing.

Mr Beadle said: “It was a fabulous evening and our thanks go to the many people who came along to support us. The choir is delighted to raise money for Save the Children and what better way than to get everyone in the mood.”
