Dukes Meadows community centre has opened as a one-stop shop to provide vital support to families in Chiswick.

The Dukes Meadows Community Centre, which will be based at Cavendish Primary School, opened  Wednesday.

The Edensor Road centre will offer support, advice and help for under fives living in the area. while its Riverside Day nursery will provide full-time and part-time playgroup sessions.

Liz Gears, the centre co-ordinator, said: "Children's centres are about having joined-up services that communicate well with each other at a local basis, supporting families, parents and children and this is what we believe the Dukes Meadows Community Centre will offer our local community."

Services will include a lone parent network information centre, with plans to introduce adult education basic skills classes and local police surgeries.

The centre was opened by Cllr Paul Lynch, Hounslow Council's lead member for children's services and education. "Children's Centres bring together services at a local level," he said. "The centre will significantly improve the health, well-being and educational attainment of children, particularly those who are disadvantaged. They will also help parents and their children access self-development, training and employment opportunities."
