A shop worker is facing jail on Friday after pleading guilty to trading cocaine and cannabis from his Feltham store.

Shopkeeper Barkat Azam's illegal under-the-counter activity was uncovered last June after a PCSO working in North Feltham spotted bags of cannabis in the till as he paid for a can of fizzy drink.

The post office on Harlington Road West, which also acts as an off licence, general store and lottery desk, was then raided by Feltham police on June 5.

Azam, 28, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to supply class A and C drugs, after the officers found four bags of cannabis in the till and 24 bags of cannabis and twelve wraps of cocaine stashed elsewhere in the shop.

Azam pleaded guilty to the offences at Isleworth Crown Court on May 6, this year, and is due to be sentenced on Friday. He has been warned to expect a custodial sentence.

Speaking after the raid last summer, Insp Dave Henfrey said: "This shop is used by elderly and vulnerable residents so we are pleased to end the type of criminality that was taking place."

A Post Office Ltd spokesman said: "The individual concerned is not the subpostmaster of the Post Office and has no connection to Post Office Ltd."
