A DRIVER has been found guilty of causing the death of a young student who was killed when his recovery vehicle ploughed into the back of her broken down car.

Kajal Pabari, 21, a Brunel University student, who worked at JJB Sports in Uxbridge High Street, was killed on the A40 near Long Lane, Hillingdon on June 14 last year, in her maroon Vauxhall Corsa.

The stretch of road has no hard shoulder and when the car broke down she was unable to pull over. Harvinder Singh Saran crashed into the rear of her car, and she was thrown forwards into her windscreen, suffering fatal head injuries.

Saran, 32, of Water Beach Road, Slough, appeared at Isleworth Crown Court last week, charged with causing death by careless driving.

The jury was told how he should have seen Ms Pabari's broken down car from 10 seconds away, giving him ample time to avoid the accident.

The court heard how he crashed into her at 55mph, with police investigators stating he was not paying attention.

Saran denied the charge and told the court 'it all happened so quickly'.

Ms Pabari's family, who live in Sudbury, spoke at the time of their devastation at losing their 21-year-old daughter. They scattered her ashes in the River Thames.

Jignesh Pabari, her brother, said: "Kajal was at Brunel. She was studying law - she wanted to have her own law firm some day. That's how high Kajal dreamed. She believed nothing is impossible - the harder you work - some day it will pay off.

"Sadly her dreams will still be dreams. Kajal was an angel. She tried her best at everything, she wanted the best for everyone.

"Kajal was a diamond, she was one in a million. Kajal had so many dreams and most of them were for the family. She wasn't a selfish girl, she would work hard and long shifts just to get that extra cash for the family."

Her family has also called for a hard shoulder to be created on the stretch of road where she died, yards from where an elderly couple were killed in similar circumstances this year.

Saran was working for Ontime Recovery, based at the Pump Lane Industrial Estate, Hayes.

He will be sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on August 6.
